My Top 5 Most Recommended Marriage Books

There are so MANY recommended marriage books in the world today- how to have a better marriage, how to improve your marriage, how to save your marriage etc. So how does one decide which ones to invest their time in? Which ones really help?

In my journey to reach other women out there who are working to restore and renew their marriages with God as their guide, I started an online community to have a sisterhood of women who grow and learn together, and share their pearls of wisdom and experience gained through the trials. Over time, many of the same books keep coming up and being praised and recommended with statements such as,”You’ve got to read this one! It helped me so much!” So, I figured, why not share these gems with ya’ll! Below are the TOP 5 Favorite recommended marriage books of the women I’ve grown to love and learn from.

1- Love and Respect by Dr. Emerson Eggerichs

*This ground breaking book supports what the Bible has been saying all along about “the Love she most desires, and the Respect he Desperately needs”. These are the two key ingredients to make any marriage work- no matter the circumstance or outside stressors.

2- For Women Only by Shaunti Feldhahn

In this book Shaunti Feldhahn does rigorous research on thousands of men to find out what Women really need to know, and then teaches them why it matters in their marriage.

She covers: Why respect is so important to your man, how he really feels about his role as provider, what it means that men are so visually “wired”, why sex for him is actually more emotional than physical, and, what he most wishes he could say to you!

(Can I just say books 1 and 2 personally changed my understanding so much that my own marriage was transformed as I applied what I had learned!)

3- The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman

In this best selling book the world over, Gary Chapman teaches that each person has a “love language”, and helps the reader to discover their own love language as well their spouses’. By knowing our spouses’ love language, we can then speak it to them!

4. Sacred Marriage by Gary Thomas

In Sacred Marriage, Gary Thomas explores the question: What if God designed marriage to make us holy more than to make us happy?

I read this book awhile ago and it completely changed my perspective on marriage- and the more years I’m married, the more I see this book come alive in truths. A must read for a renewed perspective of the purpose of marriage, ESPECIALLY for the times when marriage is particularly difficult.

5. Boundaries in Marriage by Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend

This book makes the list because after all the love and honoring and respecting, sometimes we need to know where and how should we draw a boundary when needed. How can we draw the line on a behavior that is hurting the marriage in a way that is healthy and effective? This book will guide you in that answer including specific examples!

I hope you have found one or two from this list of recommended marriage books that will bless your marriage!

xoxo,

Beth
