The importance of making time for yourself, and 4 tips to make it actually happen!

As I write this I’m stealing a few minutes for me!

My daughter is at swimming lessons with her dad, and I put my son to bed early so I would get at least 20 minutes ALONE.

Could I be doing something productive, you know, like laundry? Absolutely. But making time for yourself is actually just as important!

This has taken me YEARS to accept and make a priority.

Many women out there are selfless and giving of so much. However, giving everything away can be unhealthy.

Just like the instructions given before an airplane takes off , “In case of an emergency, put on your mask before helping others.”

How can you help others when you are not breathing yourself?

You will be a much more energetic, empathetic, empowered and rested woman if you make  making time for yourself a priority.

Here is a powerful Bible verse that give us such a great reminder of the importance to care for ourselves, and of what God desires for us.

1 Peter 5:7-9      Cast all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20    Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

When we are not watchful in creating meaningful self time to rest, we can be more physically and emotionally drained, and weaker to the modern day prowling of the devil.

So, how does one actually make it happen?

First of all, you MUST make a choice ahead of time. If you wait, it will never come.

Below are just a few tips on ways to making time for yourself a priority!

1-Join a group with similar hobbies or interests, a place you can relax and let your mind escape

2-Set an alarm– but not for self time, for your chores! Give yourself 20 minutes to clean that space, then reserve the rest of the time for you! Why do it that way? The chores will always be there!

3-Just say No- sometimes you do have to say no to others so you can say YES to time to yourself!

4-Keep a notepad next to your bed, and when you wake up in the morning write down what you plan to do with yourself later. Read a book? Take a hot bath? Go for a walk with a starbucks and your favorite tunes on? Whatever it is, this way it will be in your mind all day. By looking forward to it, you will be more likely to make it happen!

And finally remember, even God rested on the 7th Day. So should you!
